What Is a Good Conversion Rate for a Shopify Supplement Store in 2026?

Short answer

For a Shopify health and wellness store, the H1 2026 median is 3.31% of sessions (Shogun, 745 stores), with the upper quartile near 5.9%. The all-store Shopify median is far lower, about 1.7%. Cold Meta traffic to a supplement page usually converts well below the blended store number, so judge paid landing pages against their own channel, not the store average.

Key takeaways

  • Shogun's H1 2026 data puts Health and Wellness at a 3.31% median and 5.94% upper quartile, against a 1.74% median for all Shopify stores.
  • Benchmarks disagree because they measure different things: sessions vs visitors, orders vs add to carts, one category vs all stores, paid vs blended traffic.
  • A blended store rate includes email, SMS and returning subscribers. Cold paid social converts lower, so a 1.5% to 2.5% paid landing page can be healthy.
  • Subscription-only and bundle-first offers usually lower conversion rate while raising order value. Judge them on revenue per session.
  • The number to beat is your own trailing 30 days per channel and landing page, not a category average.

What do the 2026 benchmarks say for supplement and wellness stores?

The most useful dataset right now is Shogun's H1 2026 benchmark: Health and Wellness Shopify stores convert at a 3.31% median and a 4.04% mean, measured as orders divided by sessions across 745 active stores (Shogun). Other sources land in a similar band but use looser methods.

Read the table as a range, not a target. A supplement store converting at 3% of all sessions is roughly at the category median. At 5% or more it is in the top quarter. Under 1.5% blended, something is usually wrong with traffic quality, the offer or the checkout.

Why do conversion rate benchmarks disagree so much?

Because every source measures a slightly different thing. Before you compare your number to any benchmark, check these four definitions.

QuestionWhy it moves the number
Sessions or visitors?Shopify counts sessions. One person can have several sessions, so a visitor-based rate reads higher than a session-based one.
Orders or another action? Some studies count add to cart as the conversion. A 2,000-page landing page study reported a 2.3% DTC median measured as add to cart, not purchase. Unbounce's 4.2% ecommerce landing page median also counts whatever action the page asked for.
Which category?All-store medians include furniture and jewelry, which convert far lower than consumables. Beauty and food sit well above average in the Dynamic Yield data Shopify reports.
Which traffic mix?A store with a large subscriber and email base converts higher than one living on cold paid social, even with an identical site.

What conversion rate should you expect by traffic source?

Expect each channel to convert at a different rate and set targets per channel. The blended store number is an average of very different audiences, so it moves when the traffic mix moves, even if nothing on the site changed.

How each channel usually compares to the blended store rate (directional, set your own baseline)
ChannelRelative to blended store rateWhy
Returning customers, email and SMSWell aboveThey already trust the brand and often buy a known product.
Branded search and directAboveHigh intent: they searched for you.
AI assistant referrals (ChatGPT and similar)Often aboveVisitors arrive after a recommendation. At one brand we work with, ChatGPT traffic converted at 4.99%.
Retargeting (Meta dynamic ads)Around or abovePeople who already viewed products. Shopify's dynamic ads target visitors from the last 30 days.
Cold Meta and TikTok prospectingBelowFirst contact, mostly mobile, often in an in-app browser.

AI referrals are a small but growing channel worth watching on its own. At one supplement store we run, ChatGPT visits grew 6x in under a year (141 sessions in September 2025 to 885 in August 2026, US Shopify data), and most landed on product pages. If you want that channel to grow, see our guide to AI search optimization.

For cold paid social specifically, there is no good public dataset for supplements. In practice we treat a cold Meta landing page in the 1.5% to 2.5% range as workable and anything consistently above 3% at real spend as strong. That is an operating rule of thumb, not a benchmark, and it depends heavily on price point and offer.

How do subscriptions and bundles change your conversion rate?

They usually lower conversion rate and raise order value, which is why conversion rate alone is the wrong scorecard for a supplement brand. A subscription-only buy box asks for a bigger commitment. A bundle-first buy box raises the first-order price. Both can win on profit while losing on conversion rate.

  • Revenue per session (conversion rate x average order value) is the primary metric for any offer test.
  • Contribution margin per session is better still when discounts differ between variants.
  • Subscription take rate and 60-day retention decide whether a subscription-heavy offer actually pays back.

Case studies show the trade clearly. Wavesy reports a US supplement brand gained 27% in average order value and 39% in revenue per visitor after moving to 1, 3 and 5 bottle options with a subscription choice (Wavesy). That is a vendor case study, not a controlled benchmark, but the metric choice is the right one.

How do you tell if your own conversion rate is good?

Compare it to your own trailing numbers per channel and landing page first, and to the category range second. A 1.8% store-wide rate, the figure behind a Shopify Community question from a supplement owner, can be fine if most traffic is cold paid social and poor if most traffic is email.

  1. Split conversion rate by channel (paid social, search, email and SMS, direct, AI referrals).
  2. Split paid social by landing page and by device.
  3. Filter to your main country so international traffic does not drag the number.
  4. Break each landing page into cart rate, cart-to-checkout and checkout completion (see our guide on add to carts but no purchases).
  5. Track revenue per session next to conversion rate, weekly.

How we judge a supplement store's conversion rate at Succession

We never compare a store's blended conversion rate to a published median and stop there. Before any benchmark means something, we clean the number and split it the way the benchmarks cannot.

  1. One market at a time. We filter to the US first, or the brand's main market. Mixed international traffic drags every rate down and can make a healthy US store look below median.
  2. Remove sessions that were never shoppers. New Meta landing pages collect review-crawler visits after ads are created or edited, with near 100% bounce and zero add to carts. We exclude them, because they depress the conversion rate of exactly the pages that get the most spend.
  3. Split per landing page and device. From Shopify's funnel reports and ShopifyQL, we calculate cart rate, cart-to-checkout and checkout completion for each paid landing page, each step divided by the one before it. A store-wide rate blends returning subscribers with cold traffic and tells you little about either.
  4. Compare volume-matched periods. We compare a page against its own days at similar traffic levels. Conversion rate moves when spend and traffic mix move, so a lower rate on a heavier spend day is not automatically a worse page.
  5. Put revenue per session next to it. We read conversion rate and revenue per session together, alongside sessions and cost per session, not ROAS alone. A bundle-heavy supplement page can convert slightly lower and still earn more per visitor.
  6. Separate AI referrals, paid and organic. Paid ChatGPT ad clicks arrive with advertiser UTMs and a click id. We split them from organic AI referrals, because mixing the two drags the AI conversion rate down. Our guide on tracking ChatGPT traffic in Shopify and GA4 shows the setup.

Then we look at where the gap is. If checkout completion is the weak step, we look at the offer before the design: subscription-only buy boxes and buttons that skip the cart are the leaks we find most often. If two different templates carrying the same offer land at nearly the same rate, the lever is the offer, the checkout or the traffic, and a redesign will not close the gap to the benchmark. Only after all of that do we hold the cleaned number up against the category figures above.

What moves conversion rate most for supplement stores?

The biggest levers are almost never visual polish. In rough order of impact on the stores we audit: fixing broken or leaky checkout steps, matching the landing page to the ad's promise, clarifying the offer and price, and only then design and copy details.

  1. Checkout leaks. Surprise shipping, failed discount codes and missing express wallets. Extra costs are the top abandonment reason in Baymard's research at 40% of abandoners.
  2. Message match. Shopify's own guidance on paid landing pages is that the page should mirror the ad's language so visitors see what they expected.
  3. Page type for the traffic. Cold, problem-aware traffic often needs a presell page before the product page. See landing page vs product page for Meta ads.
  4. Offer clarity. One clear hero offer, savings shown in dollars, subscription terms stated plainly.
  5. Speed. Shopify's analysis found conversion about 3.5% lower for every extra 100 milliseconds of load time (Shopify Enterprise).

FAQ

Is a 2% conversion rate good for a supplement store?

On a blended basis it is below the Health and Wellness median of 3.31% in Shogun's H1 2026 data, but above the 1.74% median for all Shopify stores. If most of your traffic is cold paid social, 2% can be healthy. If a large share is email, SMS and returning subscribers, 2% suggests a leak in the offer or checkout.

What is a good conversion rate for cold Facebook traffic to a supplement page?

There is no reliable public benchmark for this segment. As an operating rule we treat 1.5% to 2.5% as workable and consistently above 3% at meaningful spend as strong. Judge it with revenue per session and cost per purchase, since a lower conversion rate with a larger bundle can be more profitable.

Should I use Shopify or GA4 conversion rate?

Use Shopify for store conversion rate because it counts orders directly, and use GA4 for step-level checkout funnels if its checkout events are configured. Never mix them in one comparison. The two tools define sessions differently and GA4 loses some sessions to consent settings and blockers.

Why is my mobile conversion rate lower than desktop?

On many supplement stores mobile is lower because mobile traffic is mostly cold paid social opened in in-app browsers, while desktop skews toward returning and search visitors. Compare devices within the same channel before blaming mobile design. Then test the mobile checkout directly, especially express wallets and discount codes.

What conversion rate puts a supplement store in the top 10%?

Across all Shopify stores, Littledata-based data cited by Charle puts the top 10% above 4.7%. For Health and Wellness specifically, Shogun's H1 2026 upper quartile is 5.94%, so a top-decile wellness store is likely above that. Treat these as blended store figures that include loyal repeat customers.

When to bring in Succession Media

Succession Media is a DTC growth agency for Shopify brands doing $50K to $1M a month, strongest in supplement, wellness and health categories. This guide's topic maps to our Media Buying and CRO work. It is worth a call if:

  • Your store-wide rate looks close to the category median, but you do not know the rate for each paid landing page.
  • Your blended conversion rate includes a meaningful share of international traffic you do not advertise to.
  • Two different page designs with the same offer convert at nearly the same rate and you are planning a third.
  • Your team reports ROAS only, with no revenue per session or cost per session next to it.
